Bellringer: We read and discussed the Declaration of the Rights of Man while students took a few notes. We watched an edited version of a ten minute Crash Course World history on the French Revolution. Students then answered the question: Was the French Revolution successful? (use the pdf below on The Declaration of the Rights of Man).
We wrapped up the French Revolution today and corrected the quiz from Friday as a class. Tomorrow we will end our renaissance, reformation, revolutions unit and take our final test on Wednesday.

Bellringer: What were the big ideas of the Enlightenment? Name three Enlightenment thinkers.Today students finished notes on the Enlightenment. Then, we had an introductory video on the French Revolution. Students read about the French revolution in their textbooks, starting on page 488. They completed the worksheet below, identifying the main facts- who what, when, where, why, and how. They worked in partners to create a song sharing all of the major facts of the French revolution.

Today we explored how principles from the Scientific Revolution of naturals laws, reasoning, observation, and evidence were added to during the Enlightement. We talked about how Enlightenment thinkers wanted to apply these scientific principles to the study of human relationships, society, and government. We went through the powerpoint below, discussing some of the major philosophers and their ideas.

Today students got to pretend to be King John using the powerpoint below. They tried to make decisions that would maintain power and strengthen the kingdom. We discussed some of the choices John actually made, and the circumstances leading up to him signing the Magna Carta.
